The Ebony Fashion Fair is a traveling fashion show that began in 1958 by the Johnson Publishing Company. The renown show featured European fashion designers to an African-American audience during a time of racial tension in America. Needless to say Eunice Johnson and the Johnson Publishing Company faced racial prejudices. In honor of the 50 year anniversary theChicago History Museumwill be featuring an exhibit showcasing these garments. Some of the designers includeYves St. Laurent, Oscar de la Renta, andChristian Lacroixjust to name a few. Over 60 garments will be showcased througout the exhibit.
